36

There is a Chinese idiom “work or not work is still 36”

So should I not work? But here, I work for my 36 project.

thirty-six exposures of thirty-six preset themes

Ingredients:

a borrowed Leica minilux and an expired roll of Fuji 135 film

Steps:

(1) Set 36 themes (2) Take a camera and insert a roll of film (3) Go shooting! until you fired 36 shoots (don’t cheat, you have to follow the sequence of your 36 themes!) (4) Go develop it and tell everyone about your 36 project.

Thoughts:

I was rushing to get these 36 shoots done, it took me 2-3 hours, and it is not as easy as I thought. I just walked around to shoot the preset themes, but mostly it was the presentation of the preset themes that I was looking for. Those themes that are not in a “form” are more challenging, e.g. sound, chaos, peace, fear etc. but paradoxically, these are the themes that could be further developed.

This project is fun because there was a strong feeling that the road was leading me, but at the same time, I chose the road myself too. It’s like an interaction with the environment, and it’s also like a hunting treasures game. I guess this is also due to my hurry to finish it within few hours, if I spend a week to this, the feeling might not be that strong.

And in the end, when you look at the pictures, some of them are so unexpected. But well, this is what film brings you anyway.
